This acknowledgment honors a century of dedication and the ongoing efforts of the Bulgarian community in Hungary. Bulgarian gardening is celebrated as a living cultural legacy, passed down through community gardens, educational institutions, and family traditions, symbolizing both historical roots and a vibrant heritage.

The inscription was announced during Bulgaria’s Independence Day celebrations in Hungary, with a wreath laying at the monument honoring Bulgarian gardeners who founded the settlement of Halásztelek. The official award ceremony is scheduled for October 17 in Szentendre, preceding the Day of Hungarian-Bulgarian Friendship which falls on 19 October.

Efforts to preserve this heritage include collaboration with the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in Szentendre, where a model Bulgarian garden showcasing traditional agricultural techniques and crops like Bulgarian tomato varieties is being developed. This project aims to educate visitors about the Bulgarian contribution to Hungarian agriculture through perseverance and knowledge.
